New nanotools for biology
Cristina Flors Lab @ IMDEA Nanociencia
Dr. Álvaro Castells García
Alvaro Castells García obtained a degree in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences by the University of Valencia, and a MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology by the Autonomous University of Madrid. Following this, he completed his PhD in Biomedicine at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona, under the supervision of Prof. Maria Pia Cosma. There, he studied the mechanism of chromatin structure regulation using Single Molecule Localization Microscopy (SMLM) and advanced imaging analysis. He then moved to the Guangzhou Regenerative Medicine and Health Guangdong Laboratory (GRMH-GDL), in Guangzhou, China, attaining a position of Associate Researcher. There, he focused on using SMLM to unveil the structure of nascent RNA in human cells. Afterwards, he continued his work on the Medical Research Department of the Guangdong People´s Hospital (South China university) as an associate researcher.
From 2024, he is a MSCA fellow supervised by Cristina Flors, studying mechanisms of chromatin alteration by mechanotransduction on human cells using SMLM.
